For more than three months, people have needed to practice social (physical) distancing by staying six feet away from each other. During the COVID-19 lockdown, construction sites have stayed open with different restrictions in every Canadian province. Even though the lockdown order has lifted, construction workers still have to social distance. Here are some tips on how to social distance on road construction sites.
Keep the Construction Worker Groups Low at Each Site
During the Coronavirus lockdown, construction was considered an essential business in Canada. However, the employee count decreased to allow construction workers to abide by social distancing laws. Even though the lockdown order has lifted, social distancing laws are still in effect. It is still very important to keep the number of employees at each site low. This way, everyone can keep regular shifts while covering more ground.
Enforce the Safety Laws
This point might sound obvious, but it is worth mentioning. Make sure that you are wearing your masks at all times. This also applies if you are on your break. In addition to wearing a mask, always take your temperature before work and make sure that you are not short of breath. If you have a fever, struggle to breathe, or feel any unusual tightness in your chest, seek medical attention before you go back to work.
Practice Self-Care at Home
When you are not working, make sure to practice self-care. Enjoy leisure time. Spend quality time with your families. Get enough sleep every night, eat proper meals, exercise, and drink plenty of water. If you wake up with any COVID-19 symptoms, call your boss for time off. Then seek medical attention immediately. If you are struggling with your emotional health, seek professional help from a therapist or confide in a trusted loved one. Just like there is no shame in seeking help for your physical health, there is also no shame in seeking help for your mental health.
Buy Traffic Cones to Stave off Pedestrians
While you are working on construction sites and abiding by social distancing laws, not all pedestrians respect those laws. To prevent social distancing issues, use one of our expanding barriers or traffic safety cones to block off your site. We sell orange and green traffic cones, as well as four- to ten-inch cone bars, to fully block construction sites. Hopefully, these tips on how to social distance on road construction sites will help you and your crew stay healthy and safe.
